There are many martial arts styles utilized in modern Mixed Martial Arts competition you may be interested in only one aspect such as boxing or grappling but if its Mixed Martial Arts training you wish to pursue then its accepted wisdom that you need to be well versed in three ranges of combat;
- Stand up fighting involving striking both from both “outside” boxing range and “dirty” boxing/clinch range.
- Clinch Fighting & Wrestling
- Ground fighting
Training at Cyclone gives you the opportunity to study a range of martial arts styles which when combined will give you a complete skill set. Some of our students prefer to study one system in depth for a while before picking up another, others prefer to study 2 or 3 at the same time. It all depends on how much time you can spend training!
In order to cover all these ranges using systems with depth and a long standing martial arts heritage Cyclone Martial Arts have a range of classes that cover several systems to build a complete knowledge of martial arts:
- Chinese Boxing (a powerful stand up fighting system) There are many Kung Fu based stand up systems but Chu Sau Lei Family Boxing is a very strong system utilising a lower base and squarer stance than systems such as Muay Thai whilst retaining powerful low point kicking and knee & elbow strikes.
- Western Boxing – At Cyclone our boxing coach understands both ABA, PRo Boxing and MMA therefore we train how to best utilise the best of the sweet science for the competition formats we engage in (K1 rules & MMA)
- Wing Chun (Chu Sau Lei Wing Chun) providing a depth and base for all other skills aswell as a different level of Dirty Boxing skill) This system of Wing Chun is very different to most of the self termed “traditional wing chun” with a very different stance and wider use of the techniques available in many instances being utilized in different ways to the more commonly found wing chun systems.
- No Gi Grappling based on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. No Gi BJJ with a blend of old school BJJ style with newer ideas such as the wrestling based mixed tenth planet jiu jitsu system and submission wrestling techniques.
- Judo – Combat based Judo adding a dimension often overlooked in MMA schools but a well executed throw can change a fight in an instant.
