Instructor Profile – Alex Wright (Chinese Boxing/MMA)

MMA InstructorCyclones’   head Instructor Alex Wright has trained in a variety of systems over the last 15 years including Chinese Boxing, Western Boxing, Wing chun Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling and Muay Thai.  A natural coach Alex founded Cyclone in 2005 originally as Cyclone Wing Chun teaching the Chu Sau Lei system under UK Head Instructor Alan Orr.  Prior to this time Alex had spent much time studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and training in a mixed martial arts gym and brought this into the Cyclone set up from day one.  It had always been the intention to use the MMA competition format for Cyclone but originally wanted to retain the Wing chun “tag” and alongside his MMA team the National Chu Sau Lei Iron Wolves help build the name of CSL Wing Chun as a viable stand up alternative in MMA.  Its probably true to say this has now happened to a larger degree. In 2009 Cyclone moved premises and established a new Cyclone Gym which has finally shed the Wing Chun tag and emerged as a Bona Fide MMA gym teaching a variety of systems.
Alex has recently been to Brazil training with old school BJJ master Crezio De Souza.

Alex has competed in many forms of martial art competition over the years including fighting in both MMA & K1 rules kickboxing.

The systems on which Cyclone has been built on are:

Chinese Boxing  in which Alex holds a black belt,
Chu Sau Lei Wing Chun (Level 2 Instructor under Alan Orr)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Blue Belt)
MMA – Phase 3 Blue Belt Eddy Mills Shark Tank System.

Alex has trained with some of the worlds best coaches including Maurio Gomez, Eddy Mills, Crezio De Souza & Roger Gracie along with still regularly training with many top North East coaches such as his BJJ teacher Dave Harewood, top Muay Thai fighter Craig Jose, Geoff Simpson BJJ & decorated MMA Fighter Bryan Moore.
