FAQS – Read This If you Are New to Cyclone

Every Week I answer the phone to 10 or so prospective students who often ask the same questions so I’ll do my best to answer as many of them here as possible. If you want to know more please fill out the contact form and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. The best way of course is just to come along and see for yourself. AW.
Q. What nights do you train and how much does it cost???
A. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. £5 all sessions, monthly fees are available. There is a traditional session on the tuesday for Wing chun in Heaton.

Q. I’m mainly interested in fitness
A. you’ll get fit but if you want boxercise then please go find that type of class.
Q. Do you spar?
A. Yes regularly in boxing, kick boxing, Wrestling, BJJ and MMA, twice a week or more. Beginners however are not encouraged to spar until they have the skill to exercise control.
Q. Is there a joining fee?
A. No. There is a yearly membership that includes insurance. We usually deal with this is January.
You pay this when you have decided that you wish to stay.
Q. I want to fight MMA can I do this through you?
A. Yes but you are going to have to train very hard in several diciplines. We have a fight team.
Q. Do I need to be fit to start training?
A. Not as such although if you have specific health issues seek medical advice. You will get fitter by joining our group.
Q. Cyclone looks very different from many Wing Chun Schools I’ve seen is it still Wing Chun?
A. We train Chinese boxing, Grappling based on BJJ, Clinch and wrestling and Wing Chun, Very much so. We train in a realistic and often combative way however the Chu Sau Lei system is what we believe to be Wing chun at its best.
Q. Does Cyclone Wing Chun have a uniform?
A. No. Board shorts or tracksuit bottoms and a tee shirt is the norm. You can buy specific training gear from www.fightstoremma.com Favoured apparel are boardshorts, Rashguards and association Tee shirts. We do have our own T Shirts but they aren’t compuls0ry.
Q. What equipment do I need?
A. The only equipment we insist on is a gumshield preferably a Shock Doctor or good quality one. You don’t need this for initial sessions though but sooner or later you will need boxing and MMA gloves at the least. Buy boxing and MMA gloves from Fightstoremma.com
Q. What equipment do you use regularly?
A. MMA gloves, Boxing gloves, Knee pads, rashguards, Kick Shields, Kettlebells, safety mats, heavy bags, olympic rings and weights.
Q. What ages can attend?
A. Anyone above the age of 14. Average age is 26.
Q. Is this a good martial art for women.
A. Yes. Perfect.
