Ghetto Method
What is the Ghetto Method?
The Ghetto Method is, in a real sense
A coming together of North East heads
A collaboration, a collective?
Nah, something more than that
An ethos and a vision, a common goal?
Bigger!
Late 2005 old skool heads got banging together. Nothing new. Lots of talk bout “the good old dayz“
Remember when, remember when. . .
But some energy got kick started, some dormant sh*t ticking away found it’s fuse. Other energy (as is the way) was attracted to this new source, and soon the energy was flowing freely.
In Easter 2006, in some kind of tribute to the season, youth took the lead. Amongst the blooms and blossoms came sweet fruit of revival. Young heads finding themselves blocked at every turn by a cynical ‘grown up’ scene hungry for the dollar, naturally (and without any genetic modifications) came full circle and back to the purest form.
Call it a block party, forest party, beach party, house party, it’s all one thing. . . A free party!
And that’s the ethos….
It’s not about cost in the fiscal sense, but breaking free from the hidden charges. The ethical cost.
The cost to the creativity of this region.
We have a GREAT region, with GREAT talent.
Newcastle and Gateshead have come alive.
We don’t want to see another artist working in a bank.
We don’t want to see another musician selling shoes.
We don’t want to see another writer making burgers.
And we don’t have to. . .
This is where the Ghetto Method comes in.
In practical terms we offer an open invitation to the various crews, individuals and promoters of the region to come together in a loose collective. With a view to support each others work, spot opportunities for each other and show a unity that can help nurture a strong foundation for the city of Newcastle and the surrounding region.
We offer free representation. Many key members of the GMC are heavily involved in the nationwide music scene and as such want to use these positions to highlight the talent of the North East. We have regular CD mail outs to our contacts, showcasing bands, Djs and producers and try to facilitate ‘hook ups’ with fledgling artists and more established artists.
We have networked a number of regionally based companies whose services and support are important, this list is still in early development but we aim to have all bases covered soon. Shouldn’t take long, as a wise man once said ‘all you need to manage a band is two numbers. One of a good solicitor and one of a good accountant’
He must be talking sense, he sounded like a northerner!
Our events won’t always be parties.
We feel that exhibitions of local art, street art and literature are equally important in this vision for the city.
Community and local radio is another key ingredient. Check out the GMC radio show every wednesday night 11pm-1am on 102.5fm or www.ne1fm.com
So there you have it, a brief over view of what it’s about and how it came to be. The Ghetto Method.
